about soma
Soma Therapy & Wellness was created on the premise that there shouldn't be a gap between having a safe inclusive space and effective trauma therapy.
EVERYONE IS WORTHY OF HEALING…but hard stuff happens. As a result, we don’t always believe it, do we? Belief exists in our thoughts, while the experience that formed those thoughts exists in our bodies. At the heart of SOMA is a desire to offer holistic whole person healing through body oriented and bottom up brain based psychotherapy.
You can’t just think your way into “better” and founder Adele Martelle has always believed that clients deserve to experience better! From a young age she dreamed of fostering a safe space for people of all faiths, cultures, race and orientation to explore, grow and heal together. When her 2nd grade teacher asked her what she wanted to be when she grew up? She strangely replied “I want to help people with their heads and their hearts”. Apparently a response so unusual that Mrs. Hayes thought it warranted a call home. Well that answer never waivered.
In 2023, after 11 years in private practice, and finally getting all three of her kiddos to school age, Adele opened Soma Therapy & Wellness. In those 11 years of practice the need for a healing space that fostered inclusivity, spirituality, and specialized in neuroscience trauma and relationship healing became undeniable. Soma is the only trauma-informed therapy practice in Hampton Roads to specialize in religious trauma healing, spiritual integration, and to offer sex informed attachment therapy for couples.
A central component of Soma is not only to provide excellent psychotherapy services but to be a hub for connecting our clients with other exceptional local wellness providers. That is why you will see local preferred providers who have collaborated as part of our team. At Soma we strongly believe healing isn’t just individual or for those who can afford on-going therapy. Healing at its best is accessible and communal. This belief is exemplified in our monthly experiential wellness reduced rate group workshops, “Soma Co-labs”
